Journey of a Cake Order Series

Since 2014, we have been producing online tutorials, covering mainly how to make and decorate cakes. When I look back, I can see that we have not covered “behind the scenes” and/or “business” related topics much at all. With this series, I have decided to make some videos that relate more to a “cake shop” or business kind of environment and share some of my own real life processes and experiences from my own business which I am now retired from. I will walk you through a cake order’s journey starting from when a customer first contacts you about a cake they want, all the way till the delivery of their cake, and beyond. There’s a whole range of things that happen in between those events as well as hundreds of decisions made in the process. For this series I will be using a Romeo and Juliet themed wedding cake as an example that I will make as an actual tutorial for Yeners Way in the end. Let me, Serdar Yener, share with you, the usual journey that a cake order takes at my cake shop for many years. I hope you learn a few things in this series.

#1 - How to do a Cake Consultation

This first episode is about the consultation. What to do when you first meet a client and how to build their trust in you and make them feel confident that you can deliver on their request.

In this video, I cover the following topics:

  • Where a cake order comes from
  • A place to meet
  • The request idea
