Learn how to make a Pumpkin Horse and Carriage Cake.

In this detailed step-by-step tutorial, we recreate one of the most loved designs from Yeners Way — the Horse and Carriage — reimagined with greater scale, structure, and artistic refinement. Inspired by years of experience and a deep personal connection to horses, this design pays tribute to the elegance and power of these remarkable animals while transforming the classic royal coach into a dramatic pumpkin-shaped centrepiece cake.

Originally created in 2014 as a pastillage topper, the first Horse and Carriage tutorial became one of our most engaged designs. This new version elevates the concept significantly. The small royal coach is replaced with a large, fully constructed round pumpkin cake, complete with a specialised internal structure. The horses are also redesigned at a larger scale, featuring expressive, slightly caricatured proportions that enhance character while maintaining realism.

This tutorial covers:

  • Designing and constructing a large pumpkin-shaped coach cake
  • Engineering a stable internal support system for a wheeled cake
  • Producing a set of wheels and mudguard as a single structured piece
  • Working confidently with pastillage for structural elements
  • Sculpting larger horses with expressive, slightly caricatured proportions
  • Applying Yeners signature method for creating strong, standing animals
  • Creating detailed horse accessories and harness components
  • Achieving smooth gold spray coating and royal-style finishing
  • Assembling a complex multi-component display cake with balance and proportion
  • Bringing a Cinderella-inspired royal theme to life

The final result is a striking showpiece cake — a grand coach ready to collect Cinderella and head to the royal ball.

This project is ideal for intermediate to advanced cake artists who want to challenge their structural skills, character modelling, and large-scale composition techniques.
