Learn how to make a golf bag cake!

Personalised cakes often begin with a person’s interests, profession or favourite activities. Sport is an especially useful source of inspiration because every sport has its own recognisable equipment, clothing and accessories. For this tutorial, the chosen sport is golf, and the centrepiece is a detailed 3D golf bag cake.

The original design was developed with the help of the Yeners Way AI Cake Creator. From several generated concepts, I selected a golf bag design that could be transformed into a practical cake while providing clear, easy-to-follow learning steps.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to shape the cake into a realistic golf bag, create the pockets, straps, seams and zip details, and construct a set of golf clubs to complete the design. You’ll also learn how careful layering, texturing and small decorative details can turn a simple carved cake into an impressive personalised centrepiece.

By the end, you’ll have techniques that can be adapted to many other sports-themed cakes, bags, equipment and three-dimensional novelty designs.

What you will learn

  • Planning and shaping a realistic 3D golf bag cake
  • Carving and preparing the cake for a clean finished shape
  • Covering an irregular three-dimensional cake smoothly
  • Creating layered pockets, straps and reinforced sections
  • Adding realistic stitching, seams, zips and metal details
  • Constructing decorative golf clubs and golf balls
  • Creating a textured grass effect for the cake board
