Balls, bags, boards and slam dunks - sculpt sporting cakes from quick toppers to action-packed showpieces.
Log in to track your progress through this journey.

You’ll begin with a quick, confidence-building sugar topper, shaping a tennis racket and balls, before moving into a full sphere sports ball cake where you’ll learn chocolate supports, layering and coating a perfectly round cake, plus patterns for soccer, golf, tennis, cricket and basketball. From there the builds get more structural: a golf bag with its strap, clubs and grass detail, a chess board with hand-made pieces, painted wood grain and a glossy glaze, and a 3D acoustic guitar that brings templates, pastillage parts, staining, varnishing and fine gold detailing together in one showpiece.
The second half steps into sculpting people and bigger constructions. You’ll mould a fitness shoe sole and build a skipping rope scene, then create a pool table with sugar felt, stained timber, numbered balls and a figurine leaning over his cue. A karate girl topper teaches internal supports and a dynamic kicking pose, the bodyboarder adds a sculpted wave and airbrushed detail, and the journey finishes with a gravity-defying slam dunk complete with a wire-bent hoop, sugar net, timber floor and a modelled player in mid-air.
It’s made for decorators who are already comfortable layering, masking and coating a cake and now want to take on themed orders for the sports mad. By the end you’ll be able to plan and build a sporting or hobby cake from scratch, from a twenty-minute topper to a two-day centrepiece with a figurine in action.
