From a five-minute sugar spider to a haunted chocolate castle — build a whole spooky repertoire.
Log in to track your progress through this journey.

This pathway takes you from the quickest last-minute Halloween decorations right through to a full haunted showpiece. You will start with two fast, high-impact ideas — a creepy severed hand and a scary spider — that need no special cutters or moulds, then move into modelling a pair of skeleton figurines with blueprints and proportion in mind. From there you will carve and coat a two tier cake topped with glowing jack-o’-lantern pumpkins, complete with a witch’s hat, broomstick and spider, before tackling a chocolate castle scene with towers, spires, rocks, bats and a moonlit sea.
Along the way you will practise the core skills that make spooky cakes work: fondant and pastillage modelling, building internal constructions, applying a chocolate skin, cutting and assembling flat pastillage panels, airbrushing for atmosphere, and lighting a cake from the inside for that extra wow factor.
It suits anyone who can already coat a cake in fondant and wants a Halloween repertoire to offer, whether that is a quick novelty cake for a child’s party or a dramatic centrepiece for a themed event. By the end you will be able to design your own spooky scene and build it with confidence.
