Carve creatures from fish to giraffe, then bring them to life with fur, markings and expression.

You’ll begin with a simple carved fish, learning to slice, layer and shape cake into a believable body before masking and coating it cleanly. From there the crab and swordfish introduce pastillage parts, chocolate crumb coats and airbrushing, along with the small details that sell a creature, like a convincing eye.
The middle of the pathway moves onto four legs and fur. The lion teaches fondant coating over a carved head with modelled ears, snout and paws; the toy elephant adds ganache work, sculpted limbs and piped fur; and the tiger brings cake paste, a chocolate skin, fur texturing, whiskers, claws and hand-painted stripes. The final three projects are the most ambitious: a fox with spiky fur and hairlines, an elephant with its own sugar figurine, and a giraffe built around an internal construction with a long neck, slender legs, royal icing fur and a fully painted coat.
It suits hobby decorators who can already bake, layer and cover a basic cake and want to step into sculpted work, as well as professionals building a dependable method for animal commissions. By the end you’ll be able to plan, carve, coat, texture, paint and finish a lifelike 3D animal cake of your own design.
