How to Deal with Spam Messages

As you probably already know, Yeners Way allows you to connect with other members in a number of different ways. One of which is a way to send public or private messages to other users on the site. While this can be useful, it also comes with a downside. That downside being that even those with malicious intentions can also use the messaging system to send emails to other users.
Firstly, if this happens to you and you receive a strange email from an unknown person, that was sent from Yeners Way, you should just ignore and delete it.
So what else can you do?
To prevent the user from doing it any further, head over to the user’s profile page at Yeners Way and flag the user as inappropriate. This will mark the user as spam in our system and they won’t be able to send any more messages.
In order to do this, first you need to know what the person’s username is. To find out what the person’s username is, take a look at the email that you received and find the person’s username. It will be seen on the line that reads…”username sent you a new message:”. After you have found the user’s username, there are two ways to go.
First way
Open your browser and in the address bar, type ‘http://www.yenersway.com/members/username’ where username is the person’s username that is shown in the email. This will take you to the malicious person’s profile page where, provided you are logged in, you will see a link to flag the user as inappropriate.
Second way
First make sure you are logged in to Yeners Way. Then from the main navigation bar, go to ‘Community’, then click on ‘Members’. This will take you to a page where you can search members at Yeners Way. Now enter the person’s username that you found earlier from the email, into the search bar at the top right. After you find the user, click on their name from the search results and go to their profile page. Now you should be able to see the link to flag the user as inappropriate.

As a last precaution, just contact us to let us know and we will disable the malicious user’s account as soon as we can. However, please understand that we can’t guarantee that the spammer won’t just create a new account and repeat the process.
Unfortunately, this kind of activity is part of the internet and the only way to stop it is by getting rid of the social features of Yeners Way altogether…and we don’t want to do that do we?. Best we can do is stay vigilant and be careful about what we click on and respond to in our emails. As long as we don’t take the desired action in response to a malicious email, then there’s nothing to worry about.
